default Superior Hiking Trail Hammock Forums Northern Hang #2 Part 1

This here footage is the Northern Hang #2 on the Superior Hiking Trail in Northern Minnesota. Twenty of us hammock hangers who are all members of HammockForums.net .... the treasure trove of hammock info, got together for 3 nights of backpacking in the cold. Most of us had never met yet it is like hiking with old friends ........ fun for me as I usually solo camp. We started in Crosby Manitou State Park as the SHT (Superior Hiking Trail) runs through it and it is a backpack only park. One of my very favorite spots up there. Had temps of 21º the first night, second night about 23º with snow and high winds and about 23º the last night. Fun for all to test their cold weather systems. Thursday several of us got up there early and camped all over ....... Friday we had a big "meet n' greet" potluck dinner and Saturday walked around 8.30 miles in high winds to camp. Some had really never backpacked and now the hook is set!! Glad for you to be watching our frolic in the piney woods ......... Whoooooo Buddy!

Question by jclime97: How to hang a hammock in a bedroom?
I need to know how to hang a hammock indoors in my bedroom, I can hang it from the ceiling above my bed i just need to know how, THANKS.

Best answer:

Answer by Smells like New Screen Names
Best is to use the free standing hammock stands when putting up a hammock indoors.

Indoor hammocks inevitably get over stressed by too much weight. Even when you sink bolts into the studs, they still will have to take a lot of weight.

Q&A: how should I hang a hammock on a wall with no studs?

3536717700 65ce7bdd7d m Q&A: how should I hang a hammock on a wall with no studs?
by Dan4th

Question by xXBettayBooXx: how should I hang a hammock on a wall with no studs?
I want to put a hammock in a corner of a room, the only problem is that one wall doesn't have studs for some odd reason. I really would prefer not to get a hammock stand because they take up soo much space and look out of place.
I guess i could hang it from the ceiling, but the issue of space comes up again. Is there anyway that i can hang it from something else other than a wall?

Best answer:

Answer by Crabbyoldgoat
You may have to look a little harder for the studs........there are usually 4 in each corner 2 going both ways to hold your sheetrock. Things are "usually" built left to right....studs 16 inches apart. Give it a try from the left corner from where you want to hang it...........otherwise the wall would be very flimsy and fall down. They have to be there. : )

Really, How Do I Hang My Hammock?

Really, How Do I Hang My Hammock?

Hanging a hammock seems like an easy task. The average person might think that a hammock simply gets tied to two trees or posts and it's ready to be laid in. However, there is a right way to hang your hammock for maximum comfort. Follow these simple guidelines (along with manufacturer guidelines) to be sure that your hammock is secure and ready for relaxation.

 ·  If your yard is blessed with trees: You're in luck, you have trees in your yard that might be able to accommodate a hammock, and you know that the trees will support the weight of one or two people. Trees need to be approximately 14-17 feet apart to hang a hammock. Don't panic if your space isn't exactly that distance. If you have a distance that is a little less than 14 feet, use less chain to make up the difference. A distance larger than 17 feet will require you to use more chain to allow for the extra length.

Don't panic, it is possible to make it work with the trees you have in your yard.

· If your yard has only one suitable tree: Not to worry, you can still use what nature has given you. Attach your hammock to the available tree, and place a wooden or metal post the proper distance away to attach the other end of your hammock. When installing the post, be sure to dig a 1.5 to 2 foot hole and secure with some concrete for added support.

· If your yard has no trees: Don't curse Mother Nature because she hasn't blessed you with two trees to hang your hammock. You are in luck, you get to choose the location of your hammock, and you can even change your mind later (something you can't do with trees). Option one: place posts in the ground (digging down 1.5-2 feet and securing with concrete) anywhere in your yard that you would like. Option two: use posts on your deck or porch that might work for your hammock. Option three: choose a hammock stand that will meet the needs of your family and blend with the décor of your outdoor living space. Hammock stands are beautiful and versatile.

· If your hammock sags: When hanging your hammock, be sure that the hammock is fairly taught. The hammock should hang straight when you are not in it, and sink down once you climb in. If the hammock sags low to the ground before weight is added it will sink farther to the ground once you sit in it. When using any of the above installation methods attach the hammock chain or straps about 4-5 feet above the ground.
